I’m on a real high after today’s very first Top Secret Tea Party! I loved every minute of it and my guests, all family (otherwise known as the Guinea Pigs, or just pigs for short…), seemed to enjoy it too as they weren’t in a hurry to leave and managed to demolish all the finger sandwiches and almost all the cake, with some taken home to indulge in later. We started with Pimm’s at the Secret Summer House then moved inside for the main event. Today’s menu included finger sandwiches with brown and white bread, Jersey butter and four fillings 1) hot smoked mackerel with horseradish and fromage frais 2) egg and cress 3) cream cheese and cucumber) and 4 ) ham and Suffolk pickle. This was followed by scones with strawberry jam or local plum, apple and pear jam, plus, of course, lashings of Cornish clotted cream. Cake selection: Carrot cake with lemon and orange butter cream, lemon drizzle and blueberry loaf cake, pink meringues with cream and raspberries and, finally, shortbread. Yummmm, if I say so myself! Three pots of tea (loose) were circulating, two of Ceylon and one ‘Blue Lady’. It was so nice using bone/vintage china from both mine and Mr Tea’s families and the sweet peas on the table looked lovely. I think the ribbons I used to tie around the starched linen napkins looked rather wonderful too. Oohh how exciting, I can’t wait to do this again! I’ll start planning immediately and let you all know the date so you can come along and try out a Top Secret Tea Party for yourself!
